COVID-19 : Masks, Science, Hearts & More....

Covid-19 has been around for almost a year now.

Many have fallen sick with the virus. Some have succumbed to it.

Many countries are witnessing a second wave and some have gone into lockdown yet again.

Hospitals are under pressure to generate beds and treatment plans for patients afflicted with the corona virus.

Healthcare workers are exhausted and frustrated. Their exhaustion is not solely due to the fact that many of them are putting in longer hours at work. Unfortunately, it stems from a grimmer reality of being abused mentally and emotionally by the world.

Like the empaths of the energy healing community, empathic healthcare workers are often challenged by the heavy energies they encounter day after day. Being a healer, this scenario is of interest as well as concern to me ; interest because much of what healthcare professionals experience is similar to what is experienced by energy healers. And concern because unlike energy healers, doctors and nurses don't seem to have a choice and need to put up with all the garbage that is thrown their way.

In order to manage the pandemic, three medical advisories have been issued to the entire world-

1. Wearing of masks in the presence of others, fitted properly over the nose and mouth.

2. Maintaining a distance of six feet among people.

3. Washing hands often and thoroughly

None of this is a big deal in itself. However, it is being made out to be a big deal by many.

Many people feel put off by the idea of wearing masks. While some are indifferent, others feel it is a form of control. Some are rebellious and thoughtless disobedience is second nature to them. This inherent need to rebel also fuels their lack of motivation to wear masks.

Everyone has their own reasons and theories for why they will not wear masks. While I try to be as less judgmental of people as possible, in this case, it is hard for me to be so.

Coming from a family with roots in medicine, I do not see why my family and friends in the medical community must wear heavy protective equipment all day long when just wearing a mask is too much of a burden for the public.

I do not see why my folk must put themselves at risk when others around them don't care one wee bit.

We, in the energy healing community, tell our clients that we can help them provided they are also willing to take responsibility for their lives.

So, why must healers in the medical community go out of their way to help a world that largely doesn't care?

Worse still is when people who contract the virus (very often due to their own negligence) and choose to get treated at high end hospitals blame the hospitals for generating a bill for their treatment!

It's time to wake up...

Private healthcare in India as well as many other parts of the globe isn't running on charity. If one wants treatment in a setup with advanced facilities and great ambience, one must be willing to pay. Else, go to charitable healthcare facilities that treat for a very nominal fee.

Even better would be to take all necessary precautions as advised by doctors themselves, so you reduce or eliminate the need to land in any hospital.

A mask is a piece of cloth that traps viruses every time someone sneezes, coughs or talks and prevents it from reaching others around them.

Is it fool proof?

May not be.

Does it reduce risk significantly.

So that's a good enough reason to wear it.

There is no hidden agenda behind asking someone to wear masks.

It is an act of care extended to yourself and to others around you.

A bit of logic and a bit of heart can help anyone understand and accept this simple science.

As a healer, I can do what is for the highest good of all or I can find fault and create a conspiracy out of everything that unfolds in the 3D world.

If I expect clients to follow certain general guidelines when they come to me for energy healing, it is only fair that I also follow the guidelines laid out by the medical community during a pandemic.

Everything we think, say and do can contribute to the greater good or take away from it. The choice of course remains ours!

On a final note, I would like to appreciate the healthcare community for its infinite patience and hard work. It isn't easy being in a low vibrational setup every single day, treating people who just need an opportunity to be critical, condescending or rebellious. I wish I could tell you to stop being so professional and large hearted. But I am well aware that medicine isn't like energy healing, where we do have the choice to say "NO" to someone who refuses to take responsibility for their life.

God bless you all!

The Complete Circle of Healing

I grew up in a family that had a strong relationship with a physician. He was patient and kind and took care of all my healthcare needs right from the time that I was a toddler until my early twenties.

As a child, I looked forward to visiting the doctor, for I was fascinated by the colourful potions he stored in huge glass containers. Besides, I knew those potions had the power to help me feel better when unwell.

Energy healing also made an appearance in my childhood. I often saw my friend’s mother standing near her plants, with her palms over them. My friend told me her mother was practising something called “Reiki.” Witnessing Reiki gave me a sense of peace and comfort and touched my heart in ways it is hard to describe.

Fast forward a decade… and it was 2007.

I found myself seated in a Reiki training class.

I was in the depths of despair as my life was in a mess.

Reiki practice helped me turn my life around and gave me the final push I needed to make some huge positive shifts in my life.

Once I was officially part of the energy healing circle, I constantly bumped into folks who seemed ‘anti-modern medicine’. I heard that medicine is 'bad' and that energy healing is far superior. Though I had no such previous bias towards medicine, I began to absorb some of what I heard.

Around the same time, I bumped into my soul companion, interestingly, a doctor of modern medicine!

He served as a mirror and showed me exactly where I was developing unhealthy resistance.

He taught me the meaning of scientific inquiry and objective thinking, which are the pillars of modern medicine.

Almost as if to teach me further, destiny had me develop  a life threatening pregnancy induced medical condition. And I was left with no choice but to turn to modern medicine to help me through it and stay alive!

At this point, I began to drop the bias I had absorbed from some of my energy healer friends.

I was also angry and disappointed as I realised my expectations of energy healing has been erroneous.

I turned to the other extreme and disconnected completely from  my energy healing practices. This didn’t serve me well either, for I soon realised that science alone cannot fulfil all human needs.

It is but one side of the coin.

The other side of the coin needs to be seen and nurtured as well.

In the process of nurturing my newly discovered scientific and logical side, I had completely ignored my intuitive and spiritual side.  And it left me feeling miserable and somewhat empty. This in turn created new problems that couldn't be solved by science or medicine!

At this point, I made the choice to bring energy healing back into my life...

As I placed my Reiki healing hands on my body again, I heaved a huge sigh of relief.

The circle felt complete!

I am now completely in tune with both science and spirit and know exactly what to pick when.

An antacid that effectively relieves abdominal discomfort is to me as much a healing agent as Reiki that gives me physical rest, emotional well-being and spiritual connection.

I know and accept that pharmaceutical pills treat several medical conditions effectively and I have no hesitation in popping them if required.

I also know that energy healing is there to support me through everything that happens in life - medical or non-medical. I turn to it every single day to recharge and to nurture my body, mind and spirit.

It doesn’t have to work like an antacid though, for the super power of energy healing lies in its softer approach!

And that to me is as miraculous as the working of the antacid!

Covid Ward Stories : Building Hearts vs Breaking Hearts

The Covid Ward at ABC Medical Centre is filled to capacity.

Healthcare workers are on their toes, all day, every day. They are required to don heavy Personal Protective Equipment every time they set foot into the Covid Ward. They sweat profusely in their multi layered attire, besides developing painful abrasions on their bodies. However, they continue to don the equipment day after day and night after night. Every time they enter the Covid Ward, they risk their own health. But none of these challenges stop them from going in there and attending to those inflicted with the corona virus.

Apart from healthcare workers, staff from food/beverage and housekeeping services also don the Personal Protective Equipment and enter the Covid Ward at regular intervals through the day.

The Covid Ward is currently one of the most tense and action packed environments in the hospital. The stories unfolding here are as numbered as the variety of patients it houses. Some stories have the potential to build hearts while others can break them.

Image by Gordon Johnson from Pixabay

Scene at Room #1

The doctor and nurse on morning rounds enter Room #1. The patient, a young woman, is found sitting in bed with her mask off. When the staff walk in, she shows no sign of putting the mask on.

Doctor : "Ms X, could you please wear your mask?"

Patient : "Doctor, the mask feels terrible. I cannot put it on any more."

Doctor : "I understand. However, as a precautionary measure, it is important that you have the mask on, at least for the time that we are in here."

Patient (irritated) : "Doctor, please understand that I am extremely uncomfortable wearing a mask."

Doctor (irritated yet calm) : "If you do not wear your mask and we end up contracting the virus, we will not be able to come and check on you. I hope you understand."

Finally, the message gets across to the patient and she reluctantly wears her mask.

Did she put the mask on only for fear of not having anyone attend to her? Or did she truly care about not passing on the virus to others?

Soul Lesson

Can we as humans be considerate of others?

If healthcare workers can wear suffocating uncomfortable attire round the clock to care for us, can we also wear a mask to protect them as well as others around us?

Scene at Room #2

Upon entering Room #2, the doctor and nurse are greeted by a warm and cheerful middle aged male patient.

The patient is diabetic and developed associated complications. He needed to be monitored in the Intensive Care Unit for several days. He recuperated well and was moved to the ward a few hours ago.

Doctor : "How are you doing today Mr Y?"

Patient (tired yet smiling) :  "Doctor, I am doing good and feeling better. Thank you for everything all of you did for me. I feel so blessed that I could make it."

Doctor : "So glad you're doing well!"

Patient : "Thank you is all I can say!"

Soul Lesson

Can we humans discover the capacity for gratitude that the heart holds?

Despite being in a dark place physically, mentally and emotionally, this patient made an effort to look for the silver lining. He also expressed his gratitude to the healthcare workers who applied their expertise to help him get better.

Scene at Room #3

A young lad from food and beverage services is on his morning rounds in the Covid Ward. He is serving coffee and breakfast to patients.

Serving coffee to the patient in Room #3 lands him in an unexpectedly awful situation. The patient takes a sip and tosses the coffee on the delivery boy's face.

He also yells at him-

"Hey boy! Do you call this coffee? It's cold as ice."

As the coffee drips down the delivery boy's Personal Protective Equipment, he is overcome by feelings of shock and humiliation.

His job has begun to feel rather challenging ever since Covid entered the hospital scene. He faces numerous difficulties every time he is required to bring food and beverage into the Covid Ward. The food needs to be packed in an elaborate way in order to meet safety standards, after which he must don the uncomfortable Personal Protective Equipment and go around serving multiple patients. Given all of these constraints, it is challenging to ensure service is as perfect as it would be in a non-covid space.

The head nurse steps in to calm the angry patient down. In order to avoid escalating the situation, she renders a quick apology to the patient and reassures him that the matter will be taken care of.  She then takes the delivery boy aside and comforts him.

She understands the patient was unhappy about the lukewarm coffee but wonders why his frustration couldn't be put forth as a request/feedback. She hopes the incident did not crush the spirit of the young lad.

Soul Lesson

Can we as humans respect the dignity of others?

Can we understand that it is OK to feel frustrated but not to rip apart the dignity of another human being in the process?

Scene at Room #4

The patient in this room is an elderly woman. She is a cardiac patient afflicted by Covid. Though her heart isn't in the best physical shape, it is wide open and holds plenty of love and gratitude. She sees the best in everyone and this keeps her feeling light hearted and joyful. She also makes it a point to thank everyone who walks into her room - right from the doctors and nurses to the food delivery staff and the housekeeping personnel.

Her vibrant smiles and heartfelt "thank yous"  warm the hearts of all who visit her space. Unfortunately, her health deteriorates and she doesn't make it.

A month after her transition comes her birth anniversary. As a token of gratitude and appreciation, the woman's children have a treat delivered to the healthcare team that had cared for their mother - a sumptuous lunch prepared with love!

Her family seems to be as open hearted as her. Though bereaved, they have accepted the reality of her transition with grace.

Soul Lesson

Can we humans recognise the light in others and also let them know that we see it?

Positive vibes are as contagious as negative vibes. As more of us begin to look for the light, the light begins to shine brighter.

Humanity cannot adopt a consciousness fuelled by hatred, judgement and mindlessness and expect the world to transform into a better place. We can create a better world only when we choose the higher consciousness of the heart and bring it into our human interactions and into all aspects of our lives.

Every story in life has the power to build a heart or to break a heart.

What we choose is up to us...

Healing Hands of Reiki - Portal to the Mystical and Magical

Reiki first appeared in my life when I was a little girl.

When I played with my friend at her home, I often saw her mother standing beside some plants, with her palms over them and keenly focused.

I was intrigued by what I saw. When I asked my friend what was going on, she told me that her mother was sharing energy with the plants and that the practice was called 'Reiki.'

Every time I saw my friend's mother giving Reiki to her plants , I wanted to be right there and witness what was happening. It caught my fascination and aroused the sense of wonder I naturally possessed as a child. Watching this practice also gave me a sense of peace and comfort and a feeling of "All is well and beautiful in this world."

Going forward into adulthood, I did not give much thought to Reiki. However, Reiki  came to me as a calling in my early twenties.

I experienced several personal challenges as I transitioned from childhood to teenage to adulthood. The challenges peaked in the year 2007 and I found myself in the depths of despair. It was during this time that the Reiki seed which had been planted years ago began to sprout. The desire to know more about Reiki took birth in me.

What started off as a small desire turned into a strong calling. Within a short period of time, I found myself seated in a Reiki teacher's house. My journey started with me receiving Reiki sessions from my teacher, followed by training to practice Reiki myself.

Receiving Reiki from my teacher felt refreshing and relaxing. But I got to experience the real deal once I began to practice Reiki myself. The Reiki experience was unlike anything I had ever had in my life!

While practising Reiki, I would find my palms heating up. It wasn't an uncomfortable heat but a soothing warmth. Placing my warm palms over the different energy centres (chakras) on the body helped me drift into deep levels of relaxation and high levels of consciousness.
Reiki practice had a dual effect on me - I felt like I was relaxing in a spa while meditating in a monastery at the same time!

For the first time in my life, I felt deeply connected to my body. I grew aware of how every part of my body was feeling.

I also found myself growing aware of my thoughts, feelings and emotions. My mind experienced silence and stillness as Reiki helped me disconnect from the chaos of the outside world for some time each day.

At the end of the mandatory 21 day practice period following my training, I emerged feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, empowered and happy, peaceful and calm.

I felt like I had a new found companion - an unconditional presence, a gentle warmth, a beautiful mystery...

Reiki is a Japanese word. In Japanese, Rei means "Universal" and Ki means "Life Force Energy."
Ki is the same as 'chi' in Chinese and 'prana' in Sanskrit.

In the simplest of words, this energy is understood to be the intelligence that is the driving force behind all of creation.

Is there scientific evidence for the existence of such a force?
There doesn't seem to be any at the moment.

Then is Reiki faith based?
Many choose to think so while others disagree.

I prefer to call Reiki a mystery.
I do not know what this phenomenon is or how it works.
All I know is that working with Reiki has had a profound effect on my life and also on the lives of many others.

The simple Reiki practice of placing my hands over the different energy centres/parts of the body helped me tap in to my inner strength and to rise above one of the most challenging periods of my life.

Reiki practice helped me gather the courage to make much needed changes in my life, to let go of people and situations that weren't in my best interest and to experience multiple breakthroughs, the biggest of them being manifesting a beautiful romantic partnership.

Reiki helped me learn the art of slowing down. It helped me relax my body and mind in a very conscious manner.

Reiki helped me feel connected to the expansiveness of the cosmos. It enabled me to get a taste of what it may feel like to connect with Spirit or God or whatever one chooses to call the unknown higher aspect of creation.

This is the simple yet profound healing potential that I see in Reiki.
Healing in the sense of being deeply connected to body, mind and soul, in good health as well as in illness.
Healing in the sense of being able to find the calm within the storms of life.
Healing in the sense of being able to love and nurture oneself and to keep going no matter what's happening in our personal and outside worlds.

I have grown to love my Reiki Healing Hands and I sincerely hope more and more people get to discover and rejoice in the ethereal magic of Reiki!

The Gift of Pharmaceuticals : Stories from the Heart

Story 1 - 2007

As a newly trained Reiki practitioner, I got to hear a lot about pharmaceuticals and their side effects.

I experienced a healing crisis right after my Reiki Level 1 class. As I made my way back home from the class, I came down with a cold and fever.

My teacher had told me that in the event of a healing crisis, I must allow the body to purge and must preferably avoid medicines. She believed medicines would interfere with the process of healing.

This was the first time I heard someone tell me not to take medication. However, since it came from my teacher, I believed there must be some validity to the advice. So I held on for a day and put up with the fever. But the symptoms worsened. I called my teacher and told her I was having a very hard time. She maintained that I must avoid pharma meds and that a native medicine remedy could help if I was extremely uncomfortable.

I purchased an over the counter native medicine pill suggested by her. However, it did not relieve my discomfort. Another day passed and I continued to feel miserable. I called my teacher again and told her I couldn’t tolerate the high fever and fatigue any more. I insisted that I must take the pharma medication I would have taken under normal circumstances.

She gave in and said I could go ahead.

I wasted no time and popped the pill. It gave me much needed relief from the burning fever and helped me feel less exhausted.

Once my temperature dropped, it automatically got easier for me to keep up with my Reiki practice and also to enjoy it. I was on 'day 3 of the 21 day cleansing process' that all practitioners must adhere to after training for any level of Reiki.

As I practised Reiki in peace and comfort, I wondered what all the fuss had been about. I couldn’t understand why medicine would interfere with my process of energy healing. Was it a fact or was it just my teacher's personal belief and bias towards pharma that she had thrust upon me?

In my experience, a high fever was not getting me anywhere in terms of being able to relax and practice Reiki. But the medicine made me comfortable enough to get back into the loop and focus on my energy work. I was wondering why there needed to be a dichotomy between the two. The medicine may have a different chemistry. But is a healing agent too.

At the end of the 21 day period, I realized that the pharma med had in no way interfered with my energy work.

In fact, by relieving my symptoms, it had helped me practice Reiki with greater ease. I emerged feeling empowered and vitalized at the end of 21 days. As I basked in the warmth of Reiki each day, I slipped into deep levels of relaxation and high levels of consciousness. I underwent a profound inner shift. I gathered the courage to make much needed changes in my life and experienced several breakthroughs, the biggest of them being manifesting a romantic relationship that was a match to my personal vibration.

Story 2 – 2009

Pharmaceutical pills gave me symptomatic relief in the year 2007. I would have recovered even if I had not popped those pills. I may have suffered my way to recovery but my life wasn’t at stake.

The year 2009 was different in that pharma literally saved my life.

I developed a life threatening condition late in pregnancy. The condition stalled the growth of my baby and she couldn’t make it into this world.

However, modern medicine managed to save my life.

As I lay in hospital with a heavy heart, grieving the loss of my baby, I felt grateful for the fact that I was still alive. I felt grateful for the scientific research that had made saving my life and the lives of many expectant mothers a possibility.

Story 3 – 2020

An energy healer friend of mine has lived with poorly managed diabetes and hypertension for a decade. Due to her bias towards pharmaceuticals, she avoided them and sought the support of native medicine instead. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be an effective remedy for the management of her medical conditions. Her condition worsened over the years and she recently landed in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital.

She deteriorated overnight and there was uncertainty over her ability to make it. However, doctors did the best they could and managed to help her stay alive. This to me was another miracle of pharmaceuticals. Sadly however, due to the fact that she neglected her condition for ten years, her kidneys are damaged and she now has to receive prolonged treatment to set the damage right. Nonetheless, she is grateful to be alive. And so am I.

My life experiences have helped me develop a positive relationship with pharma. I do not see pharma as ‘toxic.’ Instead, I see it as a gift to mankind and also to some other species. I do understand that pharmaceuticals have potential side effects, which can be toxic. However, since the side effects are documented and drugs are prescribed only when their benefits are greater than the risks, I have developed a very comfortable equation with them.

I do not find it strange that I am an energy healer and I look up to pharma. I do not mind if my energy healer friends find my thought process perplexing. While I honour others in the energy healing community who make different choices, this is the reality I have chosen for myself.

Being an energy healer does not mean I must heal every problem through the application of energy based practices. I understand that I am part of the physical world as much as I am part of an energy world.

While there is a huge overlap between the two worlds, they are also different in many ways.

I have an energy body that is nourished by 'chi' but my physical body still needs food to eat.

My astral body can travel millions of light years to connect with the stars but my physical body needs an auto mobile to travel a few hundred kilometres.

Since I am comfortable travelling in an auto mobile which is in no way natural or etheric, I  am also comfortable taking the support of synthetic medicine when required.

While energy practices support healing on one level, medicine supports healing on another level. I do not see a dichotomy between scientific healing and energy healing any more. I believe everything has its inherent value. The choice to recognise the beauty and richness of every form of healing is ours!

Empowered Medicine : A Yin Yang Model of Healing

Empowered Medicine is the name I was guided to give to a comprehensive model of healing that has been conceptualised in the book 'When Spirit Meets Science.'

This book was authored by me and my soul partner Suraj. It describes a yin-yang model of healing that is based on the best of scientific medicine and intuitive healing. We conceptualised this model after a decade long journey that pushed us outside of our comfort zones and got us to explore territory that was very different from what each of us was accustomed to.
As an energy healer, I was exposed to the concrete world of medical science, research methodology and evidence based healing.
As a surgeon, my partner was exposed to the subtler world of Reiki, energy based healing and intuitive practices.
In the initial stages of our journey, we were at loggerheads with each other, for both of us rigidly held on to our own view of reality. However, over time, life presented us with circumstances that forced us to see the opposite side and to appreciate the richness that lay there.
This journey culminated in the birth of the book - "When Spirit Meets Science."
The book is divided into three sections and one section of the book is titled "Empowered Medicine."
This article will touch upon four prominent features of this model.

Features of 'Empowered Medicine’
Principle of multidimensional healing - The human being/patient is seen as someone who exists on different planes - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Therefore, the process of healing is tailored to address each of these aspects.
Comprehensive Healing Center - Such a healing centre caters to the broad spectrum of healing requirements that exists on Planet Earth - emergency, medical and surgical services, as well as wellness and energy healing therapies are offered under one roof. There is a seamless interconnection between different services and each therapy is honoured for what it offers. There is no sense of competition or judgement among specialities and practitioners. Each of them recognises that they play a unique role, all of which are significant in the larger context of healing.
Integrative Treatment Plans- The best of wellness and energy therapies are offered alongside the best of evidence based medicine. Many 'alternative therapies’ of today emerge with a strong evidence base and demonstrate how best they can help with any given condition. These therapies are not viewed as ‘alternative’ any more, but as an ‘essential and invaluable’ aspect of healing. For instance, yoga may be incorporated with obstetric care, Reiki may help patients who need help with managing stress and uncertainty, Emotional Freedom Technique may help with management of emotions during illness and meditation may be adopted as a general practice for all patients. Customised healing plans are formulated for individual patients, based on their unique needs.
High Levels of Consciousness - The levels of human consciousness in the Comprehensive Healing Centre are extremely high. Right from the medical staff and energy healers working there to the patients coming in, every one vibrates at higher levels of consciousness than what is currently witnessed in the average human being. People who are passionate about healing are part of the work force. They are kind, compassionate and empathetic yet firm. Patients are co-operative and trusting of their healthcare providers. On the physical level, they surrender and trust their healing team to do the needful for them. On the spiritual level, they take responsibility for their health/health conditions and know they have an active part to be play in their healing. A divine partnership of love, trust and mutual respect exists between the healing team and the patient, thereby facilitating effective healing.
The conceptualisation of ‘Empowered Medicine’ and the creation of this entire book was overseen by the Ascended Master Lord Ganesha and the Archangel Gabriel. My soul partner and I simply served as channels to put the content down on paper. I trust that whoever resonates with this vision of "Empowered Medicine" will be guided by Divinity to come together to create it.

COVID-19 : Masks, Science, Hearts & More....

Covid-19 has been around for almost a year now. Many have fallen sick with the virus. Some have succumbed to it.  Many countries are witness...
